A 20 year old “new driver” hits a pedestrian late at night and severely injures the person. The driver leaves the scene, but turns himself in the
next day. The police believe he left because he
was intoxicated while driving.
He receives 2 years probation, loss of driver’s license for 3 years, and 36 hours of community service.
Does the punishment fit the crime?
Be prepared to argue either ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’
